A new world to explore
A broad wide open door
I know there’s so much more
We are made to shine

The chorus of The Plan’s latest release, Shine, sums up the message delivered to over 5,000 students in 5 schools in 5 days.

The Plan, a Sheffield schools band, and Guvna B, a critically acclaimed rap artist from London, performed and spoke to students in the first full week of July when The Shine Project went into secondary schools across South Yorkshire.

Firth Park Academy, Sheffield Park Academy and Springs Academy, which are all in Sheffield, plus Armthorpe Academy in Doncaster and Trinity Academy in nearby Thorne all hosted the Shine Project.

Guvna B, a two-time MOBO award winner, and The Plan typically put on sessions for individual year groups, playing their uplifting music and speaking an inspirational message. They also answered students’ questions and in many cases posed for selfies.

Both acts were warmly received, including at Armthorpe Academy where Guvna B was literally an answer to one teacher’s prayer. She had been praying while listening to a Guvna B CD for an inspirational message to be shared with the students that week. Little did she know that Guvna B was soon to be booked to perform at the school that very week!

The climax of the week was the first Shine Live – a new worship gathering for teenagers. STC Sheffield church was packed for the event where The Plan and Guvna B again performed brilliantly.
